Opening an FxPro account from the UAE

Settle three decisions before you touch the form, because each one is hard to reverse later.

1Email and countrythe country decides which entity, and the entity decides your protections2Identity checkphoto ID and an address document3Account typethe spread and commission live here, not in the terminal4First depositthe method you will also withdraw to
The four steps, in the order they actually happen.

The three decisions to settle first

Account type, base currency and leverage are the three choices that shape everything after registration, so decide them before you start typing. Account type determines whether you pay a commission per lot or trade on variable spreads, and switching later means a new application rather than a toggle.

Base currency decides what your deposit, profit and loss are denominated in. FxPro offers USD, EUR, GBP and AED accounts, and an AED account removes a conversion step if your salary and savings sit in dirhams.

Leverage is capped, not chosen freely. The maximum available to UAE clients is up to 1:500 on standard forex accounts, within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits, and it varies by instrument. Treat that as a ceiling and pick a setting below it that matches your risk plan.

What the form asks, and in what order

Registration asks for your identity and contact details first, then your residency and financial profile, then the account configuration. The order matters because the financial profile questionnaire sets the leverage you are offered, so answer it accurately rather than optimistically.

The questionnaire covers trading experience, employment and the source of the funds you intend to use. Answers that conflict with your later documents are the most common reason an application stalls, so keep them consistent with what you will upload.

After the profile, the form asks for account type and base currency, then platform choice among MT4, MT5, cTrader and FxPro Edge. Pick the platform you have actually used before; migrating open positions between platforms is not a routine step.

Where our calculators come in before you deposit

Run the position size calculator before you fund, using the leverage you were offered rather than the maximum headline figure. At 1:500 on standard forex accounts, within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits, a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50 margin, which shows how little a small position actually ties up.

That figure is a margin requirement, not a risk limit. The margin calculator tells you what the position holds back; the pip value calculator tells you what each 0.01 move in XAU/USD is worth on your lot size, and that is the number that should decide whether the position is the right size.

The broker serving UAE clients is FxPro Global Markets MENA Ltd. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA, and the DFSA licence for the MENA entity was withdrawn in 2020, so the firm is not locally licensed in the UAE. Check the DFSA public register entry yourself before you sign up.

The Country Field Sets Your Legal Entity, Regulator, and Funding Rail

The country field on the account form determines which FxPro legal entity holds your account, and for UAE residents that is FxPro Global Markets MENA Ltd. That entity carries the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA licences stated in the broker facts, so your client agreement, complaints route and regulatory protections all follow from the country you select. Choosing the UAE also unlocks the local funding rail: a UAE bank transfer in AED is supported, alongside cards and e-wallets. Select a different country and the entity, the regulator caveat and the available payment methods can all change, so the field is a legal decision, not a preference.

The country field also decides the maximum leverage tier that can be attached to your account. For UAE clients the cap is up to 1:500 on standard forex accounts, within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits, and that figure varies by instrument. It is a ceiling, not a target, and no other ratio applies to a UAE-registered account. On gold (XAU/USD), with 1 lot equal to 100 oz and one pip equal to 0.01, the margin you post is calculated from that cap and the reference price, currently around 4275.0. The field is therefore the first thing that shapes your margin requirement before any deposit is made.

The country field also fixes which identity documents are acceptable and which tax-reporting framework applies to you. A UAE address and Emirates ID or residence visa will be requested under the UAE entity, and the self-certification you sign is tied to your country of tax residence, not your trading address. If you hold a UAE residence visa but are tax-resident elsewhere, the two answers can differ, and the form will ask for both. Entering a country you cannot document will stall verification later, so answer it as your permanent residence, not as the place you happen to be trading from this month.

At Opening, the Account Type Choice Fixes Your Platform and Base Currency

The account type you pick at opening determines which trading platform is attached to your login. FxPro offers MT4, MT5, cTrader and FxPro Edge, and the type you select on the form is the one provisioned; switching platform afterwards normally means a new account rather than a toggle. All four platforms give you access to gold (XAU/USD) with 1 lot equal to 100 oz and one pip equal to 0.01, so the choice is about interface and order tools, not about which instruments exist. Decide which platform you will actually use before you submit, because the form does not ask twice.

The account type also fixes the base currency of the account, which is the currency your balance, margin and profit are denominated in. For a UAE reader the natural choice is AED, but the platform pairs gold against USD, so a USD or AED base changes how your profit and loss is displayed rather than the trade itself. Margin on a 0.10-lot gold position at the 1:500 cap works out to about $85.50, and that figure is quoted in USD; if your base currency is AED, the platform converts it at the prevailing rate. The base currency is set at opening and is not a display setting you can flip later.

The account type also decides whether you are on a standard forex account, which is the category to which the up-to-1:500 leverage cap applies, within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits and varying by instrument. Different account types can carry different leverage caps and different cost structures, and the form does not let you compare them side by side after submission. The practical rule is to open the type that matches the leverage tier you actually intend to use on gold, not the highest one on the page, because the cap is a maximum and using it in full on every position leaves no room for a normal adverse move.

What You Cannot Change Later Without Opening a New Account

Your country of residence and therefore your legal entity cannot be changed on an existing account. If you move out of the UAE, or if you opened under the wrong country, the fix is a new account under the correct entity, not an edit to the old one. The same applies to the regulator caveat attached to your account: FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA, and the entity serving the UAE is FxPro Global Markets MENA Ltd., so a change of country changes which of those frameworks governs you. Plan the country answer as though it were permanent, because in practice it is.

Your base currency is fixed at opening and cannot be switched on the same account. If you open in AED and later decide you want a USD base, or the reverse, you will need a new account and a new deposit; the platform will not convert the account currency in place. This matters for gold because XAU/USD is quoted in USD, so a non-USD base means every margin figure and every profit and loss number is converted for display. The conversion is routine, but the base currency itself is a one-time decision, so choose the currency you actually hold your savings in.

The platform attached to your login is also fixed by the account type you selected. MT4, MT5, cTrader and FxPro Edge are provisioned per account, and moving from one to another normally means opening a fresh account rather than migrating the existing one. Your leverage cap is likewise set by the account type and the UAE tier of up to 1:500 on standard forex accounts, within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits and varying by instrument; you can request a lower setting, but you cannot exceed the cap. Treat platform, base currency and account type as permanent choices and get them right the first time.

How Long Each Opening Step Usually Takes, From Form to First Trade

The form itself takes about ten to fifteen minutes if you have your documents ready, because it asks for identity, address, tax residency and the account type in a fixed order. The country field comes early and sets the entity, so have your Emirates ID or residence visa and a UAE proof of address to hand before you start. There is no time limit on the form, but a half-finished application that sits overnight can time out, and you will re-enter the same details. Doing it in one sitting is faster than doing it in three.

Identity verification is the step with the widest range, and it depends on whether your documents are clear and match the name on the form. A clean UAE passport or Emirates ID plus a recent utility bill or bank statement can clear in hours during business days; a mismatched name, a blurry scan or a document that does not show your address can add days and a request for resubmission. Nothing about this step is instant by rule, so do not plan a first trade for the same hour you submit. Submit the sharpest copies you have and the step is shorter.

Funding and first trade depend on the rail you choose. A local UAE bank transfer in AED can settle within a banking day, cards are typically quicker but can trigger a verification check on first use, and e-wallets vary by provider. Once funds show in the account, placing a gold order takes seconds, but the margin must already be there: at the 1:500 cap on standard forex accounts, within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits, a 0.10-lot position needs about $85.50, so a small deposit can be fully committed by one trade. Allow a full working day from submission to first trade as a realistic planning figure.

The Email and Phone You Enter Become Your Security and Alert Channel

The email address you enter becomes the login identity and the delivery channel for verification links, statements and any security notice, so a mistyped address can lock you out of your own application. Use an address you control and check regularly, not a shared or temporary one, because the verification link is time-limited and a missed link means restarting that step. The same address receives the confirmation that your account is live, which is the signal that funding can begin. Changing it later is possible but adds a verification loop, so enter it correctly the first time.

The mobile number you enter becomes the channel for two-factor authentication and for alerts on margin and open positions. For a UAE reader, a local +971 number is the practical choice because it receives SMS reliably and matches the country field you selected. The number is also used if the broker needs to reach you about a funding query or an unusual login. A number you will keep for the life of the account is better than a temporary one, because changing it later requires re-verifying the new number before two-factor authentication works again.

Both fields also feed the security check that runs at first login. The platform will typically ask for a code sent to the email or phone you registered, and if either is wrong you will not receive it. This is the point where a rushed form costs the most time, because the fix is a support request rather than a self-service edit. Treat the email and phone as part of your account's permanent identity, enter them slowly, and confirm both are reachable before you submit the application.

What Happens After You Submit, and What You Should Have Ready

After submission the application moves to verification, and the single most useful thing you can do is have your documents already uploaded rather than waiting to be asked. A clear photo of your Emirates ID or passport, a UAE proof of address dated within the last few months, and your tax-residency self-certification cover almost every request. The form will tell you which of these it needs based on the country you selected, so read that list before you close the browser. An application with documents attached moves through verification faster than one that waits for a follow-up email.

You should also decide your funding rail before you submit, because the account is provisioned with the methods available to your country and you do not want to discover at deposit time that your preferred route needs extra setup. For UAE clients the supported rails are cards (Visa/Mastercard), bank transfer including local UAE bank transfer, and e-wallets. Local bank transfer in AED is the rail that matches a UAE salary account, while cards are the fastest to start and e-wallets sit in between. Have the account details for whichever rail you pick ready before the account goes live.

Finally, have your first position sized before the account is approved. Gold at 1 lot equal to 100 oz and one pip equal to 0.01 moves in whole dollars per pip on a standard lot, and at the 1:500 cap on standard forex accounts, within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits, a 0.10-lot position needs about $85.50 in margin. The reference price is around 4275.0, so a small adverse move on even a 0.10-lot position is a real amount of money. Decide the lot size and the margin you are willing to commit before funding, not after the first trade is open.

FAQ

Common questions

Which FxPro entity will hold my account as a UAE resident?

FxPro Global Markets MENA Ltd is the entity that serves the UAE. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA. The entity name on your application determines which regulator's rules apply, so read it before you submit. Sikka Spread is an independent desk and does not open, hold or manage accounts.

What does the leverage field in the form actually control?

It sets the maximum leverage ceiling on your account, up to 1:500 on standard forex accounts within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits, and it varies by instrument. It is a cap, not a setting to aim at. At 1:500, a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50 margin. Sizing is the decision that matters; run it through our margin and position size calculators first.

Should I choose a standard or a different account type when I register?

Choose the account type whose trading conditions you can verify on the platform once you log in, not the one with the most attractive label. The form decides the platform access and the leverage ceiling you start with. FxPro publishes support for MT4, MT5, cTrader and FxPro Edge, so pick the platform you will actually use for XAU/USD.

Do I need to fund the account before I can look around the platform?

No. You can complete registration and log in to a demo or the terminal before any money moves. Use that time to locate XAU/USD, check the contract size of 100 oz per lot, and test a 0.10-lot order on demo. Funding is a separate decision with its own costs, covered on our funding page.

What personal details in the form affect my gold trading later?

Your country of residence, base currency and employment details affect the entity, the funding routes and the leverage cap you are offered. If you enter the UAE, expect AED funding options and the MENA entity. Mismatches between the form and your documents are the most common cause of a stalled application, so keep them consistent.
